US III (Armored) Corps
"Phantom"

Headquarters: Ft Hood, TX

History: In World War II III Corps served as a heavy corps in the Western Europe theatre.  Since then, the III Armored Corps has become the US Army's principal armored reserve, assigned to support NATO forces in Europe.

Current Status: III Corps currently has two active heavy divisions, plus other combat and support units it controlls.  It is expected to deploy both in support of NATO's Central Front and in support of other US units in the Middle East and elsewhere in the case of a major war. While not listed here, III Corps also supports a significant number of National Guard forces expected to reinforce it in wartime.

Forward Headquarters: Camp Humphreys, Korea
This unit was originally a test-bed for a long range attack helicopter strike unit, and was first to receive the AH-64 Apache in 1986.  It was a CENTCOM priority unit, but was unable to deploy in Desert Storm due to a hurricane that struck Texas in the Spring of 1990, damaging much of its aircraft in the process.  It currently has a forward task force in Korea to reinforce 8th Army.
