71st Communications Squadron

The 71st Communications Squadron (CS) has a long and proud lineage dating back to 1948 with the designation of Detachment 1, 1911 CS under the Army Airways Communications Service. After several redesignations, on January 1, 1965, the 2110 CS was designated/organized under the Central Communications Region. On May 1, 1970, the 2110 CS was reassigned to the newly-created Southern Communications Area. Later, on June 1, 1981, it was reassigned to the Continental Communications Division (CCD) and then to the Air Training Communications Division when CCD was redesignated the 2110 Information Systems Division. On October 1, 1990, the 2110 CS was transferred to the Air Training Command and assigned to the 71st Flying Training Wing as part of the divestiture of Air Force Communications Command. On April 1, 1991, the squadron received its current designation of the 71 CS.
