Six platoons were raised with 5 to FMFPAC and on with the 5th Division on Okinawa. The first use of the "War Dog Platoon" was with the 2nd Raider Regiment for the Bougainville operation. Most war dogs were German Shepherds, Belgian Sheep dogs or Doberman Pinschers. Both men and dogs were trained at Fort Washington MD., Fort Robinson NB., and Marine Barracks, New River NC, with a training period of about 14 weeks. War dogs served as messengers, scouts and night sentry duty.

 FMF-PAC Artillery Battalions
Marine howitzer battalions that were part of the Fleet Marine Force  supported both the III and V Amphibious Corps in all their operations during World War II. They landed with the assault troops on the beaches of Guam, Saipan, and Iwo Jima, immediately blasting Japanese fortifications in support of the infantry

 FMF-PAC DUKW Companies
Marines in the Pacific utilized the amphibious truck (DUKW) developed by General Motors to ferry supplies to the fighting Marines over impassable reefs and through jungle mud in many Pacific Islands. The name DUKW, coined by GM, stood for: D (1942), U (utility), K (front-wheel drive), & W (2 rear drive axels). DUKW companies landed with the assault troops on every island from Tarawa  to Okinawa.
