USS NEW ORLEANS was the sixth IWO JIMA - class amphibious assault
ship (helicopter) and the fourth ship in the Navy to bear the name.
Decommissioned on October 1, 1997, and stricken from the Navy list on
October 23, 1998, NEW ORLEANS is now laid up at the Suisun Bay Reserve
Fleet, Benecia, Ca., and is scheduled to be sunk as a target.
